The sale opens on Thursday 19th November at the Honesty Library in the Castle Quarter, Norwich, from 3 pm to 6.30 pm, with free fizz on arrival, and finishes in time for the Christmas lights switch-on at 7.30 pm.
It continues on Friday, 20th and Saturday, 21st November, 10 am to 4 pm, with an expanded designer collection on the rails across all three days. While browsing, shoppers can also get expert help with what to wear and how best to wear it. Norwich-based personal stylists Kate and Paula, known as The Style Duo, whose motto is "everyBody deserves to feel fabulous", will be at the opening night and back on Friday, 11 am to 2 pm, offering everything from finding the colours that suit each shopper to pulling together a complete occasion look.
Designer Labels and High-Street Favourites
This year New-U is adding an expanded collection of designer outfits, many of them brand new, originally carrying price tags of £100 - £1,000, now costing £50 - £150. Alongside the designer collection, pre-loved and new items from high-street favourites start at £5, with shoes, jewellery and accessories also available to complete the look.
Sue Harris, New-U CEO, said:
Our tagline this year says it perfectly: you have the invite; we have the look. Everyone deserves an outfit that makes them feel incredible, whether that's for a Christmas party, formal work do, summer wedding or a night out with friends. We have rails and rails of amazing items to choose from, and when buying an outfit from Glitz & Glam you know it will be at a great price and you've also supported a local charity.
Most people have an outfit sitting in the wardrobe waiting for the next big occasion, and when that time comes, they often want to wear something different. Donating clothing to New-U gives it a new lease of life, and the charity's loyalty scheme gives points for donations, which saves up to 50% on the next purchase. Every donated item is hand-sorted by the New-U team, piece by piece, with a trained eye for quality. Only the best earns a place on the shop floor or Glitz & Glam rails, with the rest heading to the much loved monthly £1 sale or upcycling workshops.
A Fitting Room With a Story
This year Glitz & Glam will also be the first official event to use the Honesty Library's new fitting room, a space with a story of its own.
The fitting room was built over the summer by participants from Rippleacts, a Norwich social enterprise that helps people who have been unemployed long-term get back into work by carrying out improvement projects for local charities. They carried out a number of improvements to this community space, with the fitting room the centrepiece of their efforts.
Laura Blackwell, New-U project manager, said:
It was great getting to know the participants over the course of the project and seeing their skills and confidence grow. The addition of the fitting room is a game changer for us.
Shopping for a Purpose
Shopping with New-U is about more than affordable, sustainable style. As a charity, New-U offers individualised work placements for unemployed adults across Norfolk, helping them build the confidence and skills to move into employment. Every purchase at Glitz & Glam goes directly towards that work.
The sale is free to enter and the invitation is open to everyone. More information can be found on the New-U official website.
