Year 6 Pupils Sample Life at Secondary School

Almost 200 Year 6 pupils from 26 different feeder primaries took part in the taster days, which gave the new cohort the opportunity to mix with their peers, as well as meet their tutors.

Niall Cole is Assistant Principal for Behaviour and Attitudes at the school, which is a member of the Wensum Trust, and is responsible for overseeing the transition process, along with Head of Year 7 Tracie Ford and Head of Key Stage 3 Annie Powrie.

โ€œThey spent the first day in their new tutor group with their tutors, then the other days they did a range of lessons across the school to get a taste of what school is like, as realistically as possible,โ€ he said.ย

He continued: โ€œTransition is a whole-school thing, so every member of staff was involved in some capacity. The Admin Team always do a massive amount of work to ensure these days work smoothly, starting way back in October, with the Open Evening and start of the admissions process.โ€

The new intake was also supported by Hellesdonโ€™s Year 8 student ambassadors, while primary schools taking part included fellow Wensum Trust members Firside Junior and Kinsale Junior.

Mr Cole added: โ€œThe purpose is to support the move to high school by providing the new students with an insight into the school, including the standards and routines that we have, the subjects that we offer, and the support that the students have available to them, so they feel comfortable and ready to start in September.โ€
